Having built luxury narrowboats since 2008 at Mercia Marina with husband and business partner Justin, Jane Hudson-Oldroyd became an expert in small space solutions: sourcing fabrics and furniture for narrowboats and the marine sector. So starting Aqua Furnishings was a natural development even though Jane had worked in the NHS for many years, and well qualified in Public Health, the unusual leap into interiors was an exciting challenge.

Launched in 2017 at Crick Boat Show, Aqua Furnishings specialises in small space solutions for boats, yachts and the marine sector including blinds and curtains,  upholstered seating cushions both indoors and outdoors, made to measure mattresses and recliner chairs. The company is a true family business with their son Alex joining from the start as their Sales Consultant, after finishing his business course at De Montford University.

Having conquered many small space solutions, it became clear during the development of the business that there was a lack of fabric that can meet the needs of the marine sector. There was no fabric that represented the interests of narrowboaters and a lack of fabric that could be used throughout a boat ie used on indoor upholstery and more technical waterproof fabrics for outdoors. Jane decided to start working with designers to develop her own collection of fabrics that would fill this gap. Hence our own Aqua By Design brand has been developed that designs fabrics and matching homeware, inspired by the waterways, that can be used for soft furnishings, indoor and outdoor upholstery.

In 2021, Alex took over Aqua Furnishings, we also became a limited company and opened an office in Bristol. This has allow the company to easily offer appointments on our customers boats both in the midlands and the south.
